Earlobe rejuvenation is one of the most consistently underappreciated aesthetic treatments — and one of the most requested among patients who have discovered it. The earlobes lose volume with age, becoming thin, wrinkled, and elongated. Heavy earrings worn over decades stretch the piercing tract and contribute to further lobe thinning. The result is an area of visible ageing that makeup and skincare cannot address — but filler can, simply and effectively.

Why Earlobes Age

The earlobes are composed primarily of fatty fibrous tissue with no cartilage support. As the systemic loss of subcutaneous fat that comes with ageing affects the earlobes, they deflate — developing the wrinkled, crepe-like appearance that becomes visible in the mid-40s and beyond. Heavy earring use accelerates this by physically stretching and thinning the lobe tissue. An elongated, thinned lobe changes the way earrings sit and look — fine jewellery on depleted lobes looks disproportionate and ages the overall appearance.

What the Treatment Involves

Earlobe filler involves injecting a small amount of hyaluronic acid filler — typically 0.3-0.5ml per lobe — to restore volume and plumpness. The treatment takes under 15 minutes. Topical anaesthetic is applied beforehand and the filler itself contains lidocaine. Results are immediate. Duration is typically 9-12 months, somewhat longer than many facial filler areas because the earlobes are less metabolically active. Earrings can be worn normally within a few days of treatment.

Stretched Piercings

For patients with stretched or elongated piercing tracts from heavy earrings, filler can help by restoring the lobe bulk around the piercing, improving how the earring sits and reducing further elongation. For very stretched piercings, surgical repair of the tract — a minor procedure under local anaesthetic — combined with filler for volume is the most complete solution. This is something we discuss and can refer appropriately during consultation.
