Biostimulators are injectable treatments that encourage collagen production over time. Depending on the product used, they may help improve firmness, support, facial structure and overall skin quality.

Not all biostimulators work in the same way. Some primarily stimulate collagen gradually, while others combine collagen stimulation with more immediate structural support.

HArmonyCa® is a hybrid injectable containing hyaluronic acid (HA) and calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA), while Sculptra® is a poly L lactic acid (PLLA) based collagen stimulator.

The two components have complementary roles. The HA component provides an immediate lifting and structural effect, while the CaHA component supports the body’s natural collagen production over time.

Depending on facial anatomy and clinical indication, HArmonyCa® may be considered for selected areas of the mid and lateral face and along the jawline.

HArmonyCa® may be performed as a single treatment session. An immediate structural effect can be seen from the HA component, while collagen related improvements develop progressively. Results may last up to 18 months, although longevity varies depending on the individual, treatment area and treatment plan.

Sculptra® is a collagen stimulating injectable based on poly L lactic acid (PLLA).

Rather than producing its primary effect through an injected gel, Sculptra® works progressively by stimulating the body’s own collagen production. The changes therefore develop gradually rather than appearing as an immediate filler like result.

Sculptra® may be considered as part of a broader facial rejuvenation approach for concerns such as:

• Progressive collagen loss
• Reduced skin firmness
• Age related changes in facial structure
• Changes in facial volume
• Reduced facial definition
• Overall skin quality concerns

Unlike HArmonyCa®, Sculptra® is generally planned as a course of treatment. On average, patients may undergo 2 to 3 treatment sessions over a few months, depending on facial anatomy, degree of correction required and treatment goals.

Improvements develop progressively as collagen production increases. Results can be seen from around one month after treatment and may last up to two years.

Although both treatments can support collagen production, HArmonyCa® and Sculptra® are not interchangeable.

HArmonyCa® may be considered when both immediate structural support and progressive collagen stimulation are desirable.

In some patients, another treatment, or no injectable treatment at all, may be more appropriate.

There is no single biostimulator that is right for everyone.
