MNRF — Microneedling Radiofrequency — is one of the most versatile and effective skin remodelling technologies available in our clinic. It builds on the collagen-stimulating principles of standard microneedling by delivering radiofrequency energy directly into the dermis at the needle tips, creating a more intense and precisely targeted thermal stimulus for collagen production. The result is a treatment that addresses acne scars, skin laxity, enlarged pores, and skin texture simultaneously — with a safety profile that makes it one of our preferred devices for Indian skin.
How MNRF Differs from Standard Microneedling
Standard microneedling creates mechanical micro-injury to stimulate collagen. MNRF does this and simultaneously delivers radiofrequency heat energy at the tip of each needle, deep in the dermis. This combination produces a more significant collagen remodelling response than mechanical needling alone. Critically, because the RF energy is delivered at the needle tip (below the epidermis), the heat does not pass through the melanin-containing superficial layers — which significantly reduces the risk of PIH compared to surface-based energy devices. This makes MNRF particularly well-suited to darker Indian skin types.
What It Treats
MNRF is our first-line recommendation for atrophic acne scars — particularly rolling and boxcar scars that have a broad base amenable to dermal remodelling. It is also highly effective for skin laxity in the lower face and neck, enlarged pores, skin texture improvement, and stretch marks. For patients with both acne scarring and early laxity — a common combination in Indian patients in their 30s — MNRF addresses both concerns in a single treatment protocol.
What to Expect
Treatment is performed under topical anaesthesia. The procedure takes 30-45 minutes for a full face. Post-treatment, there is redness, mild swelling, and pinpoint bleeding that resolves within 24-48 hours. Most patients are socially presentable within 2-3 days. A standard protocol is 3-4 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart, with results continuing to improve for 3-6 months after the final session as collagen remodelling completes. Results are cumulative and the final outcome is significantly better than what is visible at 6 weeks post-treatment.
